PTO Weekly Update 9/23/15

ROOM PARENT ORIENTATION DATE CHANGE

Please note that the date of the Room Parent Orientation has changed to Thursday, September 24 at 7:45 am in the TES Library. We apologize for the confusion. Room Parents are responsible for classroom celebrations, Staff Appreciation Week, and helping out with other teacher initiated classroom activities. Want to get a jump start on paperwork?  All TES volunteers MUST complete a 2015-2016 district Volunteer Application in the front office and either make sure your TB test is up to date or get a new one. SDUSD accepts TB tests performed within the last 4 years.

DINE OUT

The first TES DINE-OUT at Tierrasanta Round Table Pizza is this Thursday, September 24th from 11am to 9pm. 20% of all sales made during the event are donated back to TES-PTO. Flyers went home in your student’s Monday folder this week. You can also print the flyer from this Eblast or find it on the PTO website http://www.tierrasantapto.com. Print extra copies for family, friends and neighbors to help support TES. Please be sure to bring your Round Table Dine-Out flyer to get credit for your purchase. Thank you for supporting TES – PTO Dine-Out fundraiser. We invite everyone in our Tierrasanta/Murphy Canyon neighborhood to stop by, visit with neighbors, and support TES!

FROM THE SCHOOL OFFICE

Dear TES Families, I will be hosting a Principal’s Chat this Friday, September 25th, at 7:45 in the auditorium to introduce myself. I will also review test scores from the new CAASPP test (given last year), hold the annual Title I Parent Meeting, and answer any questions you may have. I hope to see you there!

FRIDAY POPSICLE SALES – PTO FUNDRAISER

The PTO is looking for volunteers to sell Popsicles on Fridays after school. This is a great fundraiser for the PTO, asks for minimal volunteer time and an event that our students and parents look forward to at the end of the school week. If you are interested in helping out with this weekly event please contact Kristina Hepburn. TES students and parents would be very happy to see Popsicles come back on Fridays after school and have missed popsicles the past couple of weeks.

SPIRIT FRIDAYS

Students are encouraged to wear RED, YELLOW or TES shirts every Friday to show their school spirit!  A few classrooms will be randomly picked every Friday and the class with the highest percentage of students wearing spirit shirts wins a prize!  Look for the booth selling TES gear on Thursday, September 24 at 12:00-12:20 in front of the Kindergarten building. T-shirt prices range from $10-$14.   We are also looking for volunteers to help sell Spirit Gear during Back To School Night on October 1st.  If you are able to help or if you have questions, please contact March.

PTO MEMBERSHIP PACKETS

PTO packets went home in your student’s Monday folder on Monday, September 21st. The packet includes: the PTO 2015-2016 calendar, the PTO membership/volunteer form, and specific PTO team volunteer sign up flyers. The membership form is the one and only form your family will need to fill out for the PTO.

PTO MEETING

PTO meetings are held on the last Monday of every month at 5:30pm. The first meeting of the 2015-2016 school year will be on Monday, September 28th. Everyone is welcome to join and we are looking forward to meeting new families at TES. Please note that because of the Book Fair taking place in the library that week, the PTO meeting will be held in the TES auditorium.

Mark your calendars for Back to School Night, Thursday, October 1st. Schedule is as follows:

6:30-6:55 Classroom Presentation #2 (for those with two or more children)

BOOK FAIR

Book Fair will be held Sept 29 – Oct 2 in the Library.  We will be open every day from 7:45am-2:15pm except Thursday, Oct 1, from 7:45am-12:30pm and 5:30-7:30pm. Volunteers needed for set up, take down, and helping out with classroom wish lists. Please contact Carrie Anderson if you can lend a hand.

ART CORPS

Art Corps Volunteers Needed!!

ART CORPS is a developmental art program, which teaches children the fundamentals of art.  With easy-to-teach lesson plans and art workshops, you can help bring this program to your child’s classroom. Visit our website atwww.ArtCorpsSD.com for more about our program.

In the course of the year, 8 lessons are taught.  Some lessons require 2 sessions to complete.  You do not need a teaching or art background.  Lessons and manuals are supplied.  Volunteers need to plan for approximately 10 art lessons that can last 1-2 hours.  You also attend 8 one hour workshops to learn how to teach these lessons. Many parents are able to share teaching with other volunteers.  There are also volunteer opportunities available outside the classroom.  These support positions are available for parents who are unable to volunteer during school hours.

We are planning our first orientation for parent-volunteers on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7:45am in the Auditorium.

FALL PICTURE DAY

Fall picture day is Wednesday Oct 7th!  Have your child ready to SMILE big for the camera as we are very excited to take their photo. We will be sending out more information and order forms in the Monday folders in the weeks to come.  We are looking for a few volunteers to help out, so if you would like to see everyone dressed up and showing their great smiles, please email Shell Smith. PARENT’S CHOICE FALL FUNDRAISER

Parent’s Choice Fall Fundraiser packets will arrive in student’s folders on Monday.  We look forward to every family’s participation. Our vendor will be Signature Fundraising featuring their exciting Fall 2015 Holiday Gift Collection. New shipping options and participation incentives. Orders will be due Monday, October 12th.

TES PTO FACEBOOK PAGE – STAY CONNECTED!

Did you know that TES has a Facebook page?   If you have turned in the PTO Membership Form, look out for an invite via email to the new 2015-2016 TES Facebook Group Page.  These invitations will be sent out after Back To School Night.  If you did not turn in the PTO Membership Form you will not get an invitation; however, you are still welcome to request to join the group!  If you are a member of the existing Facebook page, please note that by next week, the current Facebook page will close and will be replaced with a 2015-2016 version so you will need to rejoin.  Please email your questions to March.
